Dedicated teachers and engaging learning

An education at BRICK Gateway Academy offers relevant and engaging learning experiences that help students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

Technology Supported Curriculum

In many classes, students have opportunities to learn with technology as an added support to instruction. Students can build their understanding of concepts with adaptable online programs for reading and math, online science lab experiments, computer programing curriculum, or research.

Personalized instruction

During designated classroom hours, students receive small group instruction that supports their learning. Students receive tiered support for intervention, achieving grade-level goals, or above grade-level enrichment—ensuring every learner is challenged and supported.

Culturally Responsive Teaching

BRICK honors our students' culture and engages in teaching and leadership practices that seek to perpetuate, foster and sustain our students’ values, customs, symbols and linguistic assets.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Cultivating a joyful and creative community

With ample extracurricular and athletic programs, students can explore their interests, follow their passions, and develop their voice.

Afterschool programs

For elementary and middle school, we offer afterschool child care. For high school, students can join clubs or sports teams, including basketball, cheer, or other electives of their choosing.

Community meetings

Community meetings brings different grade levels together in weekly circle meeting to celebrate and build an inclusive community. Students, staff, and grade levels are recognized for their hard work and students take leadership and have a voice in their school community.

Intersessions

Intersession provides our high school students with a week-long immersive experience where they participate in an activity or program they wouldn't normally be able to do during the school day. Though the offerings vary from year to year, past favorites have included glassblowing, golf, step dance, cooking, and Korean culture.
COLLEGE AND CAREER PATHWAYS

Internships

Our high schoolers send an entire school year interning 20-25 hours a month learning crucial skills that set them up for a lifetime of success. Internships allow students to make connections and develop skills that serve them well beyond the end of their placements.

Futures Program

Every high school student, starting freshman year, enrolls in a “Futures” class, where they learn the skills they’ll need to thrive in college and the workplace. Futures courses offer free SAT and ACT test prep, help students apply for financial aid, support resume and personal statement writing, and feature college prep workshops.

6+ years alumni support

We support our alumni for six years post graduation to help ensure matriculation and graduation from their post-secondary choices. Each graduate has a dedicated advisor from our College Access & Success Team who helps resolve small missteps and tackle big hurdles. We also provide a textbook library, computers, and financial aid application assistance.

BRICK Gateway Academy is part of the BRICK Network. Through the BRICK network, we help Gateway Academy families build lasting stability and find new pathways to opportunity. We see parents become leaders, children reach college, and communities grow stronger—together.

BRTS: BRICK Road to Success

BRICK strives to meet the needs of all of its students. With our BRtS program, we employ a proactive, multidisciplinary, problem solving structure to understand the ways in which our students experience school and to ensure students are matched with services according to their needs.   

Health Services

As part of the BRICK Network, BRICK Gateway Academy families can access health and wellness services via the South Ward Wellness Center. As a one-stop space for community members, the center helps families create, cultivate, and sustain the life they want to live. The Center’s mission is to provide comprehensive healthcare services for families in the South Ward.

Economic Mobility Lab

The Economic Mobility Lab (EML) is a BRICK network community hub that provides supportive coaching, professional development programs, and personalized pathways to economic prosperity for BRICK Gateway Academy families and Newark residents. By uniting a diverse array of human services organizations, we streamline information sharing, staff development, and case management to provide accessible economic opportunities.
